Guyton – Homer Lee Slater, 87, passed away October 12, 2022 at Effingham Care Center.

The Effingham County native was a member of Meldrim United Methodist Church. He had served in the Merchant Marines, worked with the FBI, and retired from Georgia Regional Hospital. Homer loved the mountains, travelling, and walking. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom & Helen Slater; brothers, Thomas, Calvin, L.B., and Jack Slater; sister, Helen Slater; and best friends, Jimmy Mitchell and Grace Knight.

Survivors include his brothers, Earl Slater and Richard Slater; caregivers/friends, Bobby & Marcia Strickland; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be 1 pm Friday, October 14, 2022 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Meldrim.
