Mr. Jack L. Tice passed away on Friday, August 26, 2011, at his home in Garden City surrounded by his wife and other loved ones.
Jack was born on November 5, 1946, to the late Mary Ann Webb Tice (Faulk) and Jack L. Tice, Sr. He was also preceded in death by his step-father, Joel E. "Bo" Faulk, Jr., and his father-in-law, Hugh Carroll Butler of Port Wentworth.Jack was a 35 year member of ILA 1475. He began his career on the waterfront with Strachan Shipping and then became a member of ILA 1475. During his 35 year membership, Jack was elected to serve as a member of the Executive Board Committee and to serve as Chairman of the Executive Board. Jack was of the Baptist faith and attended First Baptist Church of Port Wentworth. He attended BC and was a graduate of Savannah High School.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, Kimberly Butler Tice of Garden City; daughters and sons-in-law, Stephanie T. & Barry Mathis of Savannah and Natalie T. & Brandon Bauer of Savannah; grandchildren, Harrison Mathis, Emma Grace Mathis, Noah Bauer and William Bauer; step-daughters and step-sons-in-law, Ashley W. & James Bashlor of Garden City and April W. & Brian Williams of Pooler; step-grandchildren, Dylan Bashlor and Madison Williams; mother-in-law, Carolyn S. Butler of Port Wentworth; brother-in-law, Timothy M. & Blanche Butler of Port Wentworth; cousins whom he considered as brothers, Thomas N. Connor, Jr. and Barry W. Connor, both of Bluffton, SC; aunt, Pat Webb of Midway; uncles, Robert Tice of Savannah and William Tice of Midway; and a number of other beloved cousins.
The family wishes to thank Hospice Savannah for the loving care they provided; Doctors Barry Lusky and Aaron Pederson and members of their staffs; the Rehab staff of Memorial Hospital for their care, and the many friends who lovingly cared for Jack.
The family requests members of the ILA 1475 serve as honorary pallbearers.
Visitation will be on Sunday, August 28 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
The funeral service will be on Monday, August 29 at 12 noon at the First Baptist Church of Port Wentworth located at 402 Pinehurst Place, Port Wentworth, with Rev. John Ashworth officiating. Mr. Tice will lie in state from 11 a.m. until noon. Burial will follow at the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah.
