Obituary

Jack Walter Tuten, Sr., 94, passed away Saturday, December 12 th , 2020, at Lakeview Manor. The Chatham County native served in the U. S. Navy in World War II, retired from CSX Railroad after 47 years of service. He also worked during this time on his own small family farm and for a number of years, a second nightshift at Savannah Shipyard as a welder. He was a member of Guyton United Methodist Church, the Guyton Masonic Lodge #428, and American Legion, Springfield.

He entered masonry in January 1954, dedicated his service for 66 plus years, rising to levels of master masonry. He served as Master at Guyton Lodge and Coastal Daylight Lodge, was a life member of Scottish Rite, and membership in Alee Shrine Temple, Effingham Shrine Club, and York Rite.

After retirement, he and Eunice, his wife of 64 years, enjoyed traveling in their Bounder RV, handing out their "Boundering Around" specially printed cards. They also, in that faithful RV, traveled with Savannah Baptist Assembly doing mission work, helping build and repair churches/buildings in impoverished areas. He also volunteered with Habitat, doing plumbing and electrical work; and worked helping build wheelchair ramps for senior housing.

He was the patriarch of the Tuten family, the last surviving of 11 children. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Tuten and Della Horne Tuten, his wife, Eunice Dickey Tuten, and his son, Jack Walter Tuten, Jr.

Survivors include his daughters, Wanda Lee of Jacksonville, FL and Janice Oliver (Joe) of Pooler; daughter-in-law Joyce Ann Tuten of Guyton; four granddaughters, Amy Helmly (Slade), Vicki Renfroe, Shannon Murray (Lynn), Ellie Parker (Curtis); eight great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Danny Tuten (Joy).

He loved his family dearly and was very proud of his children, grandchildren and in-laws. He was all about family and celebrating all occasions with them. He always mentioned how proud and blessed he felt at the love and closeness shared by all.

Graveside funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 19 th , 2020, at Guyton Cemetery.
