Savannah-Jackie Duane Carper, 82, of Savannah, passed away on to Heaven through "Jesus Christ" on Monday, May 5, 2014.

He was currently married to Carolyn Cannon-Carper, a wonderful, giving wife of over 15 years. He leaves behind 5 children, Linda (William) Harms, Janet L. Miller, John (Pam) Carper, Terri (Gary) Fort, and Jay Carper. He also had 5 step-sons, Bobby Cannon, Ricky Cannon, Matthew Cannon, Donald Wells and Joseph Wells who went to heaven in 2005. He leaves behind 11 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews from all over the country.

His family was pioneers from Pennsylvania and West Virginia that came to Iowa to homestead farm land. He was born to Edward Leland Carper and Doris Selma Kness in Exira, Iowa on August 4, 1931.

He was a Korean Conflict Veteran and a Vietnam Veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Alaska, Tennessee, New Mexico, Louisiana, Japan, Washington State, California, Massachusetts and Florida. He had retired after giving 20 years of service.

He was a Postal carrier for Savannah, Station B, and retiring after 20 years of service. He was married to Norma Lou Smith Carper of Tennessee for 38 years who passed away in 2002. He was a current member of Tusculum Christian Church for over 30 years. He was a member of the Hunter Army Air Field Rod & Gun Club, an avid hunter and fisherman. He was an inventor, holding a U.S. Patent and developed many other items that were custom made and sold locally.

The visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7 ^th at Strickland's Funeral Home on Hwy 80 in Pooler.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 8 ^th in the chapel of Strickland's Funeral Home with interment to follow at Bethel Cemetery off of Little Neck Road in Savannah.

Remembrances may be given to the Tusculum Christian Church, 129 Irene Street, Guyton, GA 31312.
