Obituary

Mr. Jackson Lynn Mays, 85, of Garden City, Georgia, passed away on Monday October 17, 2022 at his home.

Jack was born in Grafton, West Virginia to the late Samuel Lynn Mays and Catherine Hannah Marks Mays.  He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Bobbie Lynne Mays, and his sister, Ginger Mays Ash.  Jack lived his life rooted in his Christian principles and servant attitude.  Jack was a living model of faithfulness as seen in the various roles in which he served.  Jack served his country in the United States Air Force and in civilian life retired as an Electrical Supervisor with Savannah Electric and Power Company.  He was a member of Jasper Springs Baptist Church where he served as deacon chairman, Sunday school teacher, daycare volunteer, and as "head chef" for the Wednesday night supper.  Aside from church and family, Jack enjoyed his time at the local Senior Community Center, socializing with good friends over a game of billiards and taking every opportunity to share his Christian witness with others.

Jack took great pride and pleasure in his family with his survivors including his Wife, Debra Gene Mays; Son, Leland Ferrell Mays; Daughter, Melanie Leigh Bryant (Chris); Daughter, Alison Cheree' Selman; brother, Ben Mays (Jeanne); grandsons, Clay Bryant (Jennifer), Kyle Bryant (Laura), Coleman Bryant (Lacey), and Jackson Selman, as well as his numerous great-grandchildren, Jordan, Kaylee, Colton, Emalyn, Alayna, and Collyns.

The visitation will be on Saturday, October 22, 2022 from 1 p.m. until 1:30 p.m at the funeral home.  The celebration of Jack's life will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Johnny Bowen and Rev. Dale Simmons officiating.  The pallbearers will be Leland Mays, Chris Bryant, Clay Bryant, Kyle Bryant, Coleman Bryant, Jordan, and Jackson Selman.  Burial with military honors will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
