Springfield – James Marvin Cox, Sr., passed away on September 7, 2025 after a long illness.
Born on January 3, 1941 to Frank Byron Cox and Cecile Thomas Cox of Springfield, Marvin was a veteran of the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Jackson, Columbia, SC. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, always loving the outdoors in every way. For many years, Marvin was the proprietor of Cox's Beverage Center in Port Wentworth, GA. Upon retirement, he moved back to Springfield, building his forever home on the spot where his mother's birthplace once sat. Enjoying his horses, his fish ponds, his farm and his family, it is where he was happiest and where he spent his last days.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Melissa Kinzer Cox; his son, James (Jimmy) Marvin Cox, Jr.; his daughter, Glynis Cox Williford; grandsons, Christopher (Olivia) Boyer, Blake (Leslie) Boyer, James (Trae) Marvin Cox, III; granddaughter, Sarah (Mason) Brown; his sister, Betty Cox Wendelken; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins; step-children, Jason (Sara) Drew, Mary (Shawn) Ledford and Katie (Jason) Tomberlin; step-grandchildren, Grace Ledford, Jessie Ledford and Cody Drew.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at Strickland Funeral Home with funeral services immediately following at 11 a.m.
Interment will follow in Springfield Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that all donations go to your favorite charity in Marvin Cox's name.
