James Paul Doud, age 71, of Guyton, Georgia, passed away peacefully after an extended illness on May 30th, 2026. Born on May 25th, 1955 in Darby, Pennsylvania, Jim was raised in West Chester, surrounded by close friends and a large extended family. He grew up in a devoted Catholic household, attending Catholic school and carrying the values of faith, loyalty, and hard work with him throughout his life.
In 1975, Jim made the courageous decision to join the United States Marine Corps, where he proudly served for four years. During his time in the Marines, Jim built not only a distinguished career, but also lifelong friendships and an unwavering sense of patriotism. His service carried him to Japan and beyond, shaping the man so many came to admire. Once a Marine, always a Marine, and Jim carried that pride with him every day of his life, never missing an opportunity to greet a fellow Marine with a heartfelt “Oorah.”
After returning stateside, Jim built a life and family in Tennessee, where he raised his two sons, Marshall and Mitchell Doud. After moving to Georgia, he built a career at Gulfstream, while also devoting countless hours to coaching youth sports teams, mentoring young athletes, and becoming the kind of father whose shoes were impossible to fill. Determined and hardworking, Jim later returned to college, attending night classes while continuing to climb the ladder, and he eventually retired after many years of dedicated service.
Along the way, Jim met the love of his life, Cindy Hodges Wells, whom he married on July 28, 2012. Together, they built a life full of love, laughter, faith, and adventure. Through that marriage, Jim not only shared a deep and devoted love with Cindy, but also embraced her family wholeheartedly. He became a loving stepfather to Emilee and Branden Roberts and Casey Wells, and a proud and devoted grandfather to Rhett and Gracelyn Roberts, whom he adored beyond measure. In addition, he also gained a daughter-in-law when Mitchell married Alex Stephens, and was blessed with two more beloved grandchildren, Malcolm and Maya, who brought him tremendous joy and whom he spoke about with great pride and tenderness to anyone willing to listen. Every child fortunate enough to know him was blessed by the steady, joyful love of “Bobo.”
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Doud and Lois Gray, along with a brother, Edward Doud. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his family, including his brother, Stephen Doud, his sisters, Patsy White (Bill) and Rita Doud (Tim), as well as many nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory for years to come.
Jim was also a faithful and esteemed member of First Presbyterian Church of Pooler, where he served the Lord in many capacities throughout the years. He found great peace and happiness in hunting, and treasured the opportunity to travel the world alongside his beautiful bride, Cindy, creating memories together during their wonderful years of marriage.
Jim brought immense joy, strength, and love into the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him. His larger-than-life spirit, deep devotion to family, steadfast faith, and kind heart will be profoundly missed, but the impact he made on those around him will live on for generations.
