James Allen Helmly, Sr.

Rincon- James Allen Helmly, Sr., 84, died, Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at his residence.

The Effingham County native had retired from Savannah Electric & Power Company after 42 years of service. He was a long time member of St. John's Lutheran Church, until recently becoming a member of Bible Lutheran Church. He was a member of American Legion Post 209 and Springfield Masonic Lodge # 440 F & AM. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Gina Lynn Ambrose.

Mr. Helmly was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who loved gardening, farming, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Helmly of Rincon; children, Dale Casto (Dennis) of Springfield, Cecelia Fitzpatrick (Jack) of Rincon, James Allen "Buddy" Helmly, Jr. (Linda) of Rincon, Celeste Grovenstein of Springfield, Dana Helmly, Sr. of Rincon, and Timra Helmly of Rincon; a sister, Frances Thomas of Springfield; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 6-8 pm Saturday, November 26, 2011 in the funeral home.

Funeral: 3 pm Sunday, November 27, 2011 in the funeral home chapel.

Interment: Jerusalem Lutheran Church Cemetery
