Obituary

Garden City - Mr. James Kenyon "Jimmy" Folker, 84, passed away on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 from a long illness.

Jimmy was born in Hinesville, Georgia. He has lived a number of places, such as Waynesboro, Guyton, St. Louis, Savannah, Springfield, and Garden City. He has worked for such places as the US Army, Central of Georgia Railroad, Savannah Morning News, and several trucking companies. Most of his work was in accounting. He retired as treasurer for Gay Trucking Company in Garden City.

Jimmy loved fishing, golfing, singing, family functions, and church. He was mainly a Baptist, including service as a choir member, song leader, deacon and licensed minister.

Jimmy was in a tenor in choirs and several quartets, including the Effingham County Quartet, the Stewards Quartet, The Workmen Quartet, Marti & the Joymasters, and the Folker Family.

Surviving are a son, Dennis A. Folker (Vickie); a daughter, Phyllis F. Kruse (Mike); grandchildren Jana F. Ashe (Matt); Shane M. Ayers (Amy); Crystal A. Walters (Jimmy); Steven L. Dobson (Pam); and 19 great grandchildren.

Family and friends are encouraged to come to the graveside funeral and burial officiated by Brother Brad Proudfoot at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Hillcrest Abbey West, 1336 Dean Forest Road, Garden City, GA.
