Mr. James Ray "Jimmy" Whited, Sr., 73, of Savannah, GA, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, February 25, 2021.
He was born in Savannah to the late Kermit Aubra & Minnie Lee Burke Whited. He retired from the ILA #1475. He and his late son, Jody Spencer Whited, shared a love of stock car racing. While Jimmy was the builder, Jody raced to 3 championships covering over 20 racetracks in 3 states. Locally, Jimmy raced at the old Savannah Speedway, and he and Jody both raced at Oglethorpe Speedway.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Whited; children, Julie Whited-Marden (James K. Marden) and James Ray Whited, Jr. (Jennifer Thomas Whited); grandchildren, Austin C. Whited, Anthony Whited, Thomas Whited, Patrick Whited, Rayne Torres, Tyler James Marden, Zach James Marden, Spenser James Marden, Damion Spivey, and Destiny Spivey; great-granddaughter, Maelie Grae Juliet Burns; sisters, Jane Munn, Ann Ranrick, and Lynn Jones, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. on Friday, February 26, 2021 in the chapel of the funeral home.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 27, 2021 in the chapel of the funeral home with burial to follow at Lawrence Baptist Church Cemetery in Bulloch County.
All CDC and social distancing guidelines will be in place including the wearing of masks (Chatham County Mandate).
