James (Jim) Larry Youmans
Rincon -- James (Jim) Larry Youmans, 69, passed away April 17, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his loving famly.
The Toombs County native was preceded in death by his parents, Felton L. Youmans and Marie Chalker Youmans.
Survivors include his wife of 25 loving years, Sherry Boatright Youmans; daughter, Sharon Kelly Youmans; step-son, Michael L. Wedincamp; grandson, Tristan James Youmans; brothers, Danny Youmans of Lithonia, Ronnie (Debra) Youmans of Lyons, and Jonathan (Sun Y) Youmans of Augusta; sisters, Donna Youmans of Lyons and Connie (Danny) Sapp of Lyons; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Lyons High School in 1965, and also attended Brewton-Parker and Georgia Southern. He was a US Marine from 1965 to 1971, serving 2 tours in Vietnam. He was the Postmaster of Lyons, GA from 1976 to 1978. He then joined the US Postal Inspection Service. Inspector Youmans holds the Inspection Service Record for the most indictments and convictions on a single case. He retired in 2000. He belonged to the USMC Combat Helicopter and Tilt Motor Association, Alee Shrine Temple, Thunderbolt Masonic Lodge 693, American Legion Post 184, Happy Travelers of Valdosta, GA and the National Association of Retired Postal Inspectors.
He loved camping with his friends and family sitting around the campfire, and everyone listening to all his stories. He loved flying and was an avid pilot. He loved watching his Grandson grow up and to see him become the young man he is today. When Tristan was accepted into the University of Georgia he fulfilled his grandfather's dream.
Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel.
Interment will follow in Effingham Memorial Gardens.
