IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James "Jim"
R. Richards, Sr.
September 5, 1946 – December 31, 2023
In loving memory of James Randolph Richards Sr., a proud Vietnam veteran who was welcomed home peacefully just hours before the arrival of the new year on December 31, 2023.
Jim, born on September 5, 1946, in Baltimore, Maryland, was the younger of two children to Henry B. Richards and Annie Lou Richards. His journey through life took him to both big cities and small towns. After graduating from Headland High School in East Point, GA, in 1964, he went on to serve in the Army from 1964 to 1967, bravely representing the "Big Red One" during his tour in Vietnam.
Jim's life was a colorful blend of experiences and interests. His quick wit, playful spirit, and love for silliness created an atmosphere of joy wherever he went. Beyond his military service, he was a devoted fan of the Atlanta Falcons, weaving the tapestry of his life through countless games and shared moments of exhilaration, which he joyfully passed down to his children and grandchildren.
Jim's adventures extended beyond football, as he lived and worked in many big cities. He even played a role in promoting a famous comedian, adding his touch to the world of laughter. Music was another cherished passion that filled his life with rhythm and melody.
In addition to his diverse interests, Jim's deepest love was reserved for his family. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, survived by his sister Carol Shields, his three children, their spouses, and nine grandchildren. They include his son James Randolph Richards Jr., grandson Justin James Richards, grandson Tyler Christian Richards, grandson James Randolph Richards III, grandson William Henry Richards; daughter Ivy Elizabeth Eilerman (Ricky), grandson Cody Loren Carroll, grandson Richard Caden Eilerman, granddaughter Grace Elizabeth Eilerman; daughter Katie Jean Patronis (Tony), grandson Brantley Michael Patronis, and granddaughter London Danielle Patronis.
As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, let us not only celebrate his adventures and passions but also honor the legacy of love, laughter, generosity, and compassion he leaves behind. May Jim's spirit of kindness continue to inspire us all.
Memorial service will be held Thursday, January 4, 2024, at 3 PM at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery - 8819 US-301, Glennville, GA 30427.
