Pooler, James Robert Byrd, 91, passed away March 17, 2023, surrounded by family and friends.

James was a US Army veteran, a switch foreman for Norfolk Southern railroad and a member of Pooler Bible Church.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Carlos Sammy Byrd and Pearl Ivydale Lain Byrd and a brother, Elmer Byrd.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mildred Byrd; children, Anita Fennell (Bobby), James Byrd, Jr. (Katherine), Lonnie Byrd (Melissa); grandchildren, James Byrd, III, Sarah Skinner (Cole), Mary Katherine Byrd, and Logan Byrd; along with several nieces and nephews.

A visitation service will be held on Monday, March 20, 2023, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral will be at 11a.m. on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, in the chapel of the funeral home with burial to follow at Brewton Cemetery in Claxton, GA.
