James "Jimmy" Russell Hollingsworth, Jr., 47, of Port Wentworth, Georgia, passed away on Monday, February 21, 2022 surrounded by his family at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida.
He was born in Savannah, Georgia and was preceded in death by his father, Russell Hollingsworth, Sr. Jimmy became a police officer in 2001 and worked at Georgia Ports Authority Police Department and Rincon Police Department before joining the Port Wentworth Police Department in 2005. He remained there for the rest of his career, attaining the rank of Captain, until his cancer diagnosis made police work impossible. Jimmy loved his family, he loved his job, and he loved making people laugh. Wherever Jimmy showed up, laughter was a guarantee. If you met him once, you were his friend forever. The world is a lot less fun without him in it. "Hey Now"!!
Survivors include his wife, Jennifer Hollingsworth; children, Madison Hollingsworth (Eduardo) and Rebekah Hollingsworth (David); grandson, Lucas Hernandez; mother, Linda Schrum; siblings, Lisa Padgett (Eric), Penny Cooke, David Hollingsworth (Naomi), and Kristen Wigley (Brandon); mother-in-law, Wanda Keller; brother-in-law, Tanner Layton, as well as a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The visitation will be on Thursday, February 24, 2022 from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
The memorial service to honor Jimmy's life will be on Friday, February 25, 2022 at 11 a.m. at the Pooler First Baptist Church located at 204 U.S. Highway 80.
