Isle of Armstrong-Mr. James (Jim) Wendell "D.J." Anderson passed away peacefully on
Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at his home with the care of his loving family and
friends.
He was born in Worth County, GA and graduated from Albany High School in 1959. He
attended Valdosta State College and Georgia Southwestern. He joined the United States
Navy in June 1961 where he was stationed in New Port, Rhode Island as a Dental
Technician and proudly served his country until June 1967. After his honorable discharge
he continued his college education and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from
Columbus State University in Columbus, GA in 1972.
After several years in the management field he was hired as a conductor with Seaboard
Coastline Railroad and retired after thirty years of faithful service with CSX Railroad. He
was a member of Weston Baptist Church and attended St. Peter the Apostle Church. He
was preceded in death by his daughter, Vivian A. Ford of Colorado Springs, Colorado
and his parents, Susie and James M. Anderson of Weston, GA.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nanci Whitfield Anderson of Savannah; daughter,
Elizabeth O. Ward (Tony) of Savannah; son, Marcus Horne (DeNaye) of Kimbrough,
GA; grandchildren, Joshua Fricke, Jamie Hickox, Joy Hickox, John Ross Ward & Erin
Horne; sisters, Patricia Soloman of Ashville, NC, Carolyn (Jerry) Beckman of
Fayetteville, NC and Linda (Kip) Burgess of Rochester, NH; brother, DeWayne Anderson
of Atlanta, GA; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and dear cousins, including a
special cousin and caregiver, Ronnie L. Anderson of Ashburn, GA, and caring physicians,
Dr. Douglas Mullins, Dr. Morris Geffen, Dr. George Negrea, Dr. Lora Denton, Dr.
Marylyn Lavalle and their staff.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home, West
Chatham Chapel in Pooler.

Graveside Funeral: 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Weston Baptist Church Cemetery in Weston,
GA. Active pallbearers will be Danny Bryant, Joe Black, Ernie Brown, Jamie Hickox,
Joshua Fricke, Butch Mosley, Butch Horne and Ronnie Anderson. Honorary Pallbearers
will be Frank Sugaret, David Drew, Ricky Scoggins, Tommy Thrasher, Bobby Phillips,
Billy Whitfield, Jimmy Petrea, Jimmy Blanton, Charles Lee, Bill Hickox, Paul Stapleton,
Walter Johnson, Jeff Propst and Jerry Beckman, Jr.
