Springfield – Jane Hodges Miller, a devoted mother, grandmother, Nurse and friend to many passed away on January 9, 2025 surrounded by her loving family under the care of Ogeechee Hospice at the age of 90.
Born on October 24, 1934 to Lester and Lois (Boyles) Hodges. A graduate of Effingham Academy Class of 1951. She went on to pursue her dreams of becoming Nurse at the Warren A. Candler School of Nursing where she graduated in September 1954, she traveled to California and Alabama to begin her nursing career and then served a short while in the United States Air Force as a "flight nurse" before settling in to a "Lifelong" nursing career at Effingham County Hospital. She started work there on August 25, 1969 on the first day that the hospital opened its doors. She spent the next 46 years being devoted to Effingham Hospital before retiring in July 2006 and then "finally" retiring in December 2015. She was always known for her white uniform, white nurses cap and white shoes and was all business while on duty. She was a Chief Nurse of the 7 -3 shift, and worked in Utilization Review, Discharge, Planning and Infection Prevention, before achieving the role of Infection Control Preventionist. She received the coveted Edward Helmey Humanitarian Award in 1995.
She was baptized at Fellowship Bible Church in 2019. She lived her life loving and caring for everyone and sharing her "Faith" in Jesus every step of the way. She was the mentor and friend to countless others at Effingham Hospital and was highly respected by everyone there.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her one and only son, Randal Wesley Miller, her brothers, James Robert Hodges and Edward Leavon Hodges, a brother-in-law, Carl Bowers all of Springfield.
She is survived by her one and only grandson, Jordan Wesley Miller and his wife Megan of Glennville, GA; great-grandson, Braxton Wesley Gowin of Rincon, GA and great-granddaughter, Ryleigh Claire Miller of Glennville, GA, sister, Joyce Bowers, sister-in-law, Betty Jean Hodges both of Springfield, GA; nieces, Pamela Ratliff (Tommy), Melissa Corbitt (Shawn), and Terri Bowers, nephews, Heath Hodges (Cindy), Toby Hodges, and "daughter-in-Love", Laine Moody Bragg (Chris), and a "granddaughters in Love", Kaylan Marie Bragg of Glennville, GA and Crystal Bragg, Elizabeth and Eryn, and a host of lifelong friends who loved and spoiled her until the very end.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to her caregivers, Teresa Wilcox and Brenda McKeever who took wonderful care of her. Also, the amazing staff of Ogeechee Area Hospice who was nothing short of wonderful to her and her family in her final days. Her nurse, Kellie Murray, her social worker, Sandra Polk, and her favorite chaplain, Nick Spletstoser were such a comfort and support to her as she transitioned to the feet of Jesus.
Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, January 12, 2025 followed by funeral services at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
Interment will follow in the Church at Turkey Branch Cemetery formerly Turkey Branch UMC.
