Obituary

Garden City-Mrs. Janie Carroll Dodd, 89, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, March 3, 2016 in Savannah, GA.
She was born in Pendleton, SC on December 21, 1926. She moved to Savannah, GA with her husband and four oldest children in 1952. She was a devoted member of Garden City United Methodist Church where she taught the pre-school Sunday School class for many years. She started the Acolyte Program, was a member of the Hooks-Neidlinger Ladies Circle, and was named Woman of the Year. She took classes at Armstrong and was certified to teach pre-school. She also made many wedding cakes, not only for family, but for members of the community. She was an amazing cook and artist. She was also a member of the Destroyer Escorts Sailors Association Ladies Auxiliary, attending numerous reunions with her husband. She was a Meals-On-Wheels volunteer in Garden City for many years. She was always willing to help others in the time of need. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 70 years, Ralph V. Dodd, her parents, Louie and Sarah Whitlock Carroll, her sister, Eunice Estell Carroll, and her brother, Charles Carroll.
She is survived by her sister, Hazel Reed of Anderson, SC; six children, Cherry Exley (Randall), Brenda Wise (Randy), Tommy (Ann), Lee (Sandra), Cindy Dodd, and Stephen (Dana); eleven grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be on Monday from 10 a.m. until 12 noon at Garden City United Methodist Church with the funeral to follow at 12 noon in the sanctuary. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery. Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
