Pooler - Jarolin (Jerry) Joseph Urban, Sr. 90, passed away Sunday,
January 15, 2017 at home under hospice care.
Jerry was born in Hartford Ct. He served in the Armed Forces
as an MP in Italy during occupation after WWII, and rode patrols on
a military Harley Davidson motorcycle. His unit was absorbed into the
newly formed Air Force, where he was then trained as a mechanic in
jet engine propulsion. When he returned state side, He met the woman
who became his wife, Elizabeth (Liz) Greene while stationed at Hunter
Army Airfield in Savannah, GA. In the ensuing years, they raised 2 sons
and a daughter as Jerry's military career of 22 years took them to air bases in the US and overseas. In 1968, they returned to Pooler, Georgia. At this time, Jerry went to work for Gulfstream for 20 years. Jerry was very proud of his military career, loved his family and his country. He was a member of Pooler First Baptist Church.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years,
Elizabeth (Liz) Greene Urban and a daughter, Cheryl Ann (Urban) Karst.
Survivors include two sons, J.J. (Jay) Urban, Jr. Walterboro, SC,
and Walter Bruce Urban, West Union, SC; a sister-in-law, Patricia L.
(Greene) George, Savannah, GA.; and numerous grandchildren; great-
grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of
Compassionate Care Hospice of Pooler and remembrances may
be made to them.
Visitation will be Saturday January 21, 2017 between
12 -2 pm at funeral home followed by the funeral service at
2pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Pastor Daryl Hunt of
Walterboro, SC will officiate. Full military honor (Air Force) burial
service will be at 3:30 at Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery.
