Jeffrey Wayne "Jeff" Poole, of Savannah, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Memorial Health University Medical Center.
Jeff was born in Swainsboro, Georgia on August 24, 1953 to the late James W. Poole and Juanita Poole. He grew up in Guyton and graduated from Effingham County High School in 1972. Jeff spent most of his life in Savannah, working first for Braddy Electric at the sugar refinery, and later at Memorial Health University Medical Center, where he spent the last 35 years.
Jeff was a gifted athlete who loved to compete, excelling in both football and baseball in high school, where he was MVP and won the Golden Helmet award. But his talent really shone on the softball field, where he spent many evenings and weekends playing for the Thompson's Sporting Goods men's team in the 1980s, as well as various other teams in the Savannah area through the years. Jeff also shared his knowledge and love of sports by coaching youth recreational baseball in Chatham County for many years. In 2012, Jeff was inducted into the Effingham County Sports Hall of Fame for his many athletic accomplishments.
Jeff was a lifelong Georgia Bulldog fan who bled red and black and cheered on the Dawgs every Saturday in the fall. He was fun-loving, larger than life, and a friend to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
Jeff's survivors include his wife of 32 years, Peggy Poole of Savannah; his mother, Juanita Poole of Springfield; his daughter, Deanna Wiley (Skip) of Guyton; his two sons, Alex Clark (Megan) and Brett Poole (Alicia) of Savannah; and his two brothers, Jimmy Poole (Deborah) of Cordova, Tennessee and Jake Poole (Pam) of Springfield.
Jeff is also survived by four grandchildren who will miss their "Pop Pop" dearly - granddaughters Avery and Emery Wiley of Guyton, and grandsons Trent Anderson and Caleb Clark of Savannah; as well as many other family members and friends.
Jeff was preceded in death by his father, James W. Poole; his baby son, James Mitchell Poole; and his sister, Judy Poole Wise.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 19th from 4:30pm to 6:30pm at Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Homes – West Chatham Chapel. A service to honor Jeff's life will follow at 6:30pm in the chapel of the funeral home. In honor of Jeff, the family is requesting that all guests wear red and black.
