Jerry Thomas Carver, beloved husband, father, and "Papa," passed away peacefully at home on February 11, 2025, surrounded by his loving family after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born on June 21, 1944, in Jesup, Georgia, to Ira and Edith Carver.
Jerry was a man of deep faith and a longtime member of Rothwell Baptist Church, where he found great joy in teaching the Togetherness Sunday School class—a tradition started by his father, Rev. Ira Carver. His love for his church and community was evident in the way he served and guided others.
He worked hard throughout his life and retired from Stone Container after many dedicated years. But Jerry's greatest passion was his family. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud Papa who cherished every moment spent with those he loved. Whether it was coaching youth sports at Pooler Recreation or simply sharing stories and laughter at family gatherings, Jerry made an impact on everyone he met. He had a gift for bringing people together, offering wisdom, encouragement, and a kind heart to all who knew him.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Edith Carver; and his brothers, Curtis A. Carver and Ira Vernon Carver Jr.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Jacqueline Carver of Pooler, Georgia; his children, Dawn C. Cook (John) of Lake Havasu, Chad Carver (Stacy) of Pooler, and Julie C. Jones (Jeff) of Pooler; his treasured grandchildren, Hannah Carver, Landon McBurnnett (Trevor), Jacob Cook, Kassidy Cook, Thomas Carver, Logan Jones and Levi Cook; and his siblings, Larry D. Carver of Clyo, Rebecca C. Donnelly of Birmingham, AL, Margaret C. Elliott of Savannah, Ann C. Fisher of Pooler, Joan C. Sapp of Wilmington Island, and June C. McDermott of Rincon.
The visitation will be held Friday, February 14, 2025 at 10 am followed with a service to celebrate Jerry's life at 11am at Strickland's funeral home. Burial will be held at Hillcrest Abbey West immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Jerry's honor to Rothwell Baptist Church, 216 Rothwell Street, Pooler, GA 31322.
