J.I. Moore, Jr.
Guyton – J. I. Moore, Jr., 85, passed away Sunday, February 20, 2011 at Effingham Extended Care.
Born on July 11, 1925 to the late Jess Irvin and Addie Annie DeWitt Moore in Chatham County he lived in Effingham County most of his life and graduated from the Old Guyton High School. He retired from the Georgia DOT in 1978 after 36 years of service and the Effingham County Public Works after 10 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Military Police, was a member of Guyton Christian Church, served as Elder Emeritus, and on the Administrative Board. He was a member of the McLaws Hunting Club, Turkey Branch Fox Den, and the Effingham County Farm Bureau. He was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret M. Sharpe.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Sarah Williams Moore of Guyton; two sons, James I. (Nellwin) Moore of Perry and Gary C. (Pam) Moore of Rincon; brother, J. Franklin Moore of Guyton; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; his loving caregiver, Tonya Lee.
Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel.
Interment will follow in Effingham Memorial Gardens.
