Pooler-Mrs. JoAnn Coburn VanHook, 79, passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Candler Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Conlaw & Anna Mae Coburn, her husband, Jimmy L. VanHook, and a grandson, Anthony "Tony" M. VanHook.
Mrs. VanHook is survived by her five children, Terry VanHook Hill (Larry), Bloomingdale, Donna VanHook Corey (Larry) Savannah, J. Tim VanHook (Martha Ann) Pooler, Michael A. "Tony" VanHook (Maureen) Guyton, and Connie VanHook Gallo (Anthony) Pooler; grandchildren, L. Duane & Shannon Hill, Denton C. Hill, Jessica & Chris Columbia, Adam Corey, James L. VanHook, Elizabeth & Luke Guimont, Heather & Josh Fralick, Tiffany VanHook, Andrew Gallo, and Toni Gallo; great-grandchildren, Dayton, Palmer, and Adley Columbia, and Dominic Fralick; brother, Michael J. Corburn (Ann); several nieces, nephews, and her beloved dog, Nola.
Mrs. VanHook was born and raised in Savannah, and was a 1954 graduate of St. Vincent's Academy. She married her husband in 1954, and resided in Port Wentworth until 1968, when they relocated their family to Houma, LA for an employment opportunity for her husband. While there, Mrs. VanHook was employed with Trapp Chevrolet, served as Parade Captain of the Mardi Gras Carnival Club, Krewe of Hyacinthians, and Daughters of Ireland, Auxlliary Post 184, and was a Boy Scout leader.
The visitation will be on Wednesday at the Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home in Pooler from 7-8:30 p.m. with the Rosary beginning at 8 p.m., the same evening.
The funeral mass will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church located at 501 South Coastal Highway, Port Wentworth, GA. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Abbey East Cemetery.
