Mr. Joe Henry Oglesbee, 83, of Savannah, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at Memorial Hospital, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, laughter, and a little sweet tea magic.  Born in Glenville, Georgia, Joe spent his life in Savannah and later Bloomingdale, where he became a well-known figure on highways and backroads as an independent trucker, logging miles and memories over the course of 30-plus years. Before his trucking days, Joe served in the United States Marine Corps with pride, commitment, and a healthy dose of his signature punctuality. Joe began his working days with Borden's for 13 years, but trucking called his name, and from 1981 onward, he hauled everything from crude oil to precious memories for three decades. If there's a truck route in heaven, he's surely found it, with a classic John Wayne western playing on the radio.  Joe was a family man through and through. He delighted in his children, grandkids, and great-grandkids, always asking, "What stories do you know that I don't know?"—a phrase that sparked laughter. And he didn't just want to know the stories; he wanted to laugh about them. His sense of humor and curiosity were rivaled only by his infamous boiled peanuts and sweet tea, perfected to a science known only to Joe.  Even into his later years, Joe could be found lifting weights. Staying strong was something he took pride in.  Joe is preceded in death by his parents, C.B. and Rosalyn Lewis Davis, who no doubt are preparing for his arrival with a fresh pot of coffee and maybe even some boiled peanuts of their own.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanie Oglesbee; children, Joseph Christopher Oglesbee (Teri), Teri Lynn Oglesbee, Susan Elizabeth Oglesbee-Hyatt, Judith April Farnham (Steve), David Thomas Smoak (Cheryl), and Daniel Charles Smoak (Meagen); grandchildren, Dylan Oglesbee (Marlin), Amber Oglesbee, Ryan Hyatt, Cora Hyatt, Christina Kramer (Ryan), Lauren Bicknell, Magen Taulpey (Kole) Lindsay Brown (Anthony), and Paul Smoak (Michelle); great-grandchildren, Liam Williams Taylor, Addy Kramer, Hudson Brown, Miles Brown, Mason Smoak, and Camdyn Burnett; sister, Jeannette Griner, brothers, C.B. Davis and Danny Davis, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.  He leaves behind a family that will miss him, his stories, his jokes, his dedication, and his example of loyalty, work ethic, and strength in all senses of the word.  Rest easy, Joe; may your journey be smooth, your sweet tea always be fresh, and may you forever know all the stories.  The graveside funeral and burial to honor Joe's life will be on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery located at 1336 Dean Forest Road in Garden City, Georgia with Pastor Tony Pagliarullo officiating.  Thomas C.
