Mrs. Joe Ollie Saxon Steed
Springfield – Mrs. Joe Ollie Saxon Steed, born July 27, 1915 to Jerry Loren Saxon and Florrie Ambrose Saxon passed away at her home March 12, 2016 at the age of 100.
She was a lifelong resident of Effingham County and a member of Silver Hill United Methodist Church where she served in many areas of the church and was Secretary and Treasurer from many years. She was employed at various sewing plants in Effingham for over 25 years and was a homemaker.
Joe Ollie and Owen had 8 children, Malcolm (Mary Helen), Lavonne (Lib), Tommie (Diane), Jerry (Norma), Martha Ann (Pat), Betty Joe (Al), Rachel (Bobby), and Randal (Paula); many grands, great-grands, and great-great-grands.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Owen Steed; son, Malcolm; son-in-law, Al Mauro; daughter-in-law, Lib; brothers, Bob and Thad Saxon; sisters, Mildred Mock, Lillian Farmer, Anne Belle Parry, and Ida Mae Saxon.
Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Silver Hill United Methodist Church. She will lie in state from 10 a.m.
Interment will be in the church cemetery.
