John Benjamin "Bennie" Edenfield

Dec 17, 1942 — Oct 26, 2026

John Benjamin “Bennie” Edenfield, born December 17, 1942, in Effingham County, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on October 26, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Known to family and friends as Bennie, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who lived a life rooted in faith, family, hard work, and the simple joys his life brought him. He was a good, kindhearted man who never met a stranger, was always ready with a smile, and would lend a helping hand to anyone who needed one. He leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a legacy that will live on through the generations of his family.

Bennie was the son of the late Paul and Madena Edenfield and the brother of the late Bessell “Punky” Edenfield and Tillie Edenfield Gnann. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Jenny Graham Edenfield, with whom he built a lifetime of love, laughter, and devotion. Together, they raised two daughters who were the pride and joy of his life: LeAnn Mikulsky (Tom) and Regina Blewett (John).

Nothing brought Bennie more joy than his family. He was a proud granddaddy to six grandchildren: Bryce Blewett (Marilyn), Kailyn Duesler (Nicholas), Cassidy Blewett (Brent), Emilee Dodd (Josh), Ian Blewett, and Abby Oyola (Daniel). He was also blessed with four great-grandchildren, Emerson and Graham Blewett, Riley Dodd, and Thomas Duesler, who brought him immeasurable happiness. His family was his greatest treasure, and he took great pride in watching all of them grow.

Bennie retired in 1993 from Verizon as a cable splicer, a job well-suited to a man who could fix just about anything. But his skills reached far beyond his day job. He was also a well-known local, master plumber and electrician, and folks in the community knew they could call on Bennie when something needed fixing. Whether it was a leaky pipe, an electrical problem, or something else that had gone wrong, he was always willing to lend a hand. He never seemed to mind being called upon, and he found great joy in helping others. To Bennie, it was simply what you did for your friends. His willingness to share his time, his knowledge, and his talents made him a valued friend and a familiar, trusted face throughout the community.

Bennie found happiness in the simple things in life. He loved working with his hands, tending to his garden and yard, and spending time outdoors. He was happiest when he had a project to work on, something to tinker with, or family gathered nearby. He had a playful spirit, a good sense of humor, and a way of making people always feel welcome. He never needed much to be content and had a special gift for finding joy in everyday life.

Bennie was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Springfield and later attended The Church at Godley Station. His faith was an important part of his life, providing strength and guidance through the years. He believed in the value of family, the importance of hard work, and the goodness of helping others.

Bennie will be remembered as a loving husband, a devoted daddy and granddaddy, a faithful man, and a friend to all who knew him. He was a man who found happiness in his home, his family, and the everyday blessings of life. His family will forever cherish the many stories he told, the laughter they shared, and the love he gave so freely. His life was well lived, his family was well loved, and his memory will always be a blessing.

Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate Bennie’s life on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, with visitation at 1:30 pm and funeral at 3:00 pm at Strickland’s Funeral Home in Springfield.

Interment will follow in Springfield Cemetery.
