John Edward Croon, III

February 16, 1946 — February 23, 2026

Savannah, Georgia

John Edward Croon, III, 80, of Savannah, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on February 23, 2026.
John was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, serving his country honorably, including being stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He carried himself with the discipline, strength, and integrity that defined his military service throughout his life. He believed in standing firm in his convictions and was never afraid to speak his mind.
Above all, John was a devoted husband and father. He shared a loving marriage with his wife, Betty Susan Croon, and cherished his role as a father to his children: Susan Croon; John E. Croon, IV; Melissa Barron; Lisa Edwards; Sarah Croon; Christopher Croon; and his beloved daughter, Margaret Louella Croon, who heartbreakingly passed away just an hour and a half after her father. The bond they shared is now reunited in eternity.
John had a deep love for music. He found joy in playing hymns and classical music on his organ and piano, often filling his home with melodies of faith and beauty. He also enjoyed recording his own music on his keyboards — a creative expression that brought him great happiness and comfort.
He loved traveling to the mountains and especially treasured his visits to Tennessee. One of his favorite places was Dollywood, where he surprised his wife by renewing their wedding vows during his 50th wedding anniversary at the chapel inside Dollywood. He absolutely loved the scenery, the people, and the simple joy of being surrounded by the beauty of the Smoky Mountains.
John’s favorite scripture was John 3:14–21, particularly the promise: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” That promise of eternal life anchored his faith and gave him hope. His family finds comfort knowing he is now fully embraced in the Light he believed in so deeply.
He leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, music, strength, and love. Though he will be deeply missed, his influence and memory will live on in the lives of all who knew him.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude for the prayers, support, and love shown during this difficult time.

The graveside funeral and burial will be on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at 2 p.m. at Beaufort National Cemetery located at 1601 Boundary Street in Beaufort, South Carolina.
