Savannah - Mr. John Durell "Duke" Hodges, 70, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at Hospice Savannah with his wife by his side.

Mr. Hodges was born in Bulloch County. He grew up in Guyton and resided in Savannah most of his adult life. He attended the Independent Presbyterian Church. He was an active member of the Forest City Gun Club. He loved bird hunting and skeet shooting and was an excellent marksman.

Mr. Hodges was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Archie and Bobbie Mae Hodges, a brother, Donald A. Hodges and a step-son, James Richard Cox. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Evans Hodges of Savannah; two children, Suzanne Hodges Connolly (Robin) of Atlanta and Christopher Morris Hodges (Laura) of Loganville; two step-children, Sherra Dasher Poole of Springfield and Randall Evans Cox of Savannah; six grandchildren, Whitney Sharp, Cheyenne Cox, Cassidy Cox, Sean Connolly, Taylor Hodges and Torrie Hodges; a brother and two sisters-in-law, Daniel & Ty Hodges of Statesboro and Latayne Hodges; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Marian & Ken Schrandt of Rockledge, FL and Patricia & David Hurst of Sparta and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Funeral: 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the Independent Presbyterian Church at 207 Bull Street in Savannah. Burial will follow at Guyton Cemetery.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers remembrances may be given to the Independent Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 9266, Savannah, GA 31412.
