Rincon – John Stephen Durrence, 72, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at his home.

The California native graduated from Oceanside High School in 1967 and served in the US Marines from 1967 – 1970, having two tours in Vietnam. He attended the University of Georgia and was a member of Port Wentworth United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Iris Martin Durrence; sister, Dale Bond; and his step-family, including daughter, Andria McGowan, granddaughter, Melanie Kesler, and grandson, Jack Kesler.

"Here's what I know about Steve...He is a gentle, patient man who knows what to do with a good piece of meat. He has a fine sense of humor and poor judgment when it comes to fireworks. He likes pepper grinders and pound cake. Annie always thought that he was the cat's pajamas. A well-lived life needs no prayers...maybe one of thanks for having known him" — Steve's brother in law, Jim Martin.
