Mr. John I. Lanier, 86, of Meldrim Georgia, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024.

John was born in Chatham County and had lived in Meldrim for a number of years.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles V. Lanier, Sr. and Francis W. Whitley Lanier, his wife Emma Lee Clark Lanier, a great-grandson Cody Futch, a brother Charles V. Lanier, Jr. and a sister Marie Durden.  He served his country in the United States Army and retired from the State of Georgia after 30 years of service.  He was a collector of American Eagles and loved the Lord.  He will be remembered for helping others, for being a hard worker, and for his strong handshake.  He will be missed by his family.

Survivors include his daughters, Sonja Lair, Katherine Moore, Lora Lanier, and Nora Lanier; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, special friend, Sherry Smith; and several nieces and nephews.

John's wishes were to be cremated without a formal service.
