IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John "Big
Marty" Seckinger, Jr.
April 15, 1954 – October 3, 2025
John Martin Seckinger, Jr., 71, of Guyton, Georgia, passed away in his wife's arms at their home on October 3, 2025.
Marty was married to the love of his life, Cindy, his "queen," for 49 wonderful years. A devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, he filled every room with laughter, warmth, and generosity. He and Cindy raised three children — Kristin, Brooks, and Blake — whom he lovingly spoiled and supported in everything they did. No matter how busy life got, Marty always made time to take his queen out on Friday night dates, often joined by friends, keeping their love strong and their laughter constant.
He loved watching his kids play sports growing up and could often be found in his shop, working on projects and sharing laughs with friends and family. He had a knack for teasing those he loved, especially his beloved nieces and nephews — though his mischief was always followed by something sweet, like taking his little angel Addison to Dairy Queen for a treat in the "Ole White Truck."
He adored his sister and brother-in-law, Joyce Ann and Jerry Grimes, and always made sure they wanted for nothing.
You can't talk about Marty without mentioning his love for animals. He wouldn't leave the house without his furry best friends, taking them along on every trip to the hardware store.
He spent 40 years working for Savannah Electric and Georgia Power, where he was known for his dedication, strong work ethic, and sense of humor. During those years, he built countless lifelong friendships that he cherished deeply.
A man of faith, Marty was a lifelong member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Garden City, Georgia. His kind heart, generosity, and willingness to help others reflected the values he lived by every day.
Marty is survived by his wife Cindy; his sister and brother-in-law, Joyce Ann and Jerry Grimes; his children, Kristin, Brooks, and Blake; and a large, loving extended family, including nieces, nephews, and cousins Justin, Crystal, Addison, Megan, Brian, Beckham, Benson, Derrick, April, Layla, Koleman, Kyler, Cathy, John, Connor, Emmeline, Freddy, Paulette, Janie, and Richard, along with many others who were blessed to know and love him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Seckinger; his father- and mother-in-law, "Big Zip" and Margaret Zipperer; and his brother-in-law "Lil Zip" Zipperer.
