John E. "Gene" Mason, Jr.

Mr. John E. “Gene” Mason, 86, of Guyton, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at Memorial Hospital.

Gene will be missed by his son, Samuel L. Reynolds, Jr (Sandra); grandchildren, Brandy Morgan, Daniel Morgan (Marie), Kristi Beard (Jeremy), Jennifer Formby (Noah), and Courtney Brown (Samuel); a number of great-grandchildren; a number of great-great-grandchildren; two nieces, Susan Robertson (Doug) and Laurie Wolfe (Michael); nephew, Barry Mason (Kristen).

Gene was born in Savannah, Georgia and was preceded in death by his wife, Frances June Mason; daughter, Deborah June Mason; son, Timothy “Timmy” Wayne Mason; parents, Mr. & Mrs. John E. Mason, Sr.; brother, Holbrook Mason (Judy). Gene served his country in the United States Navy and retired from the Chatham County Sheriffs Department after around 40 years of service. Gene loved the outdoors. He has been described as being kind, generous, and that he would give you the shirt off of his back. He will be missed.

The visitation will be on Monday, September 7, 2026 from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. at Gateway Church located at 1702 Pine Barren Road in Bloomingdale, Georgia. The funeral to honor Gene’s life will follow at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary. The burial will follow at Lower Black Creek Church Cemetery.
