Mr. John William Powell, 69, of Pooler, passed away on Wednesday, December 1, 2021.

He was born in Fort Worth, TX and was preceded in death by his parents, John William Powell, Sr. and Zura Mae Henry, brothers, Jimmy Powell and Pat Powell, and his father-in-law, Grady Cannady.  He was the lead electronic technician at Sears for 28 years and later the Deputy Building Official for Effingham County for 18 years.  He was a very active member of Living Faith Church of God where he taught Sunday School, served on the Pastor's Council, sang, and played bass for the praise and worship team.  Most of all, he liked to play with his grandkids, cook, ride his bike, and walk in his free time.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Joan Cannady Powell of Pooler, Ga; children, Jason and Amy Powell of Rincon, GA, Jennifer and Ryan Johnson of Guyton, Ga, Jessica and Levi Keeling  of Louisville, KY, and Johnna and Kyle Douglas of Brunswick, GA; grandchildren, Anna Powell, Madison Johnson, Nathan Powell, Elijah Powell, Maci Johnson, Molli Johnson, Scarlett Douglas, Reese Keeling, Hayes Douglas, Parker Keeling, and Tucker Johnson; siblings, Marjorie and Dr. Marcus Roberts, Sam and Mary Dobbs, and Jay Scott and Eleanor Powell, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

The visitation will be at the Living Faith Church of God located at 3789 Noel C. Conaway Road, Guyton, on Thursday, December 9 ^th from 1 until 2 p.m.   The funeral will follow at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary with burial to follow at Effingham Memorial Gardens.
