Obituary

Jon Sauls, 52, loving husband of Angela Watson Sauls for 25 years, and father of two sons he adored Jon Marshall (Torie) and Owen, was called home Wednesday, June 29, 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Jon was a Richmond Hill native but lived in Effingham for 32 years and considered it home. Jon always had a strong work ethic that he was taught early on by his father, Archie Sauls. He began working for Stone Container in 1989 and was recording secretary of Local 1576 United Papermakers Union. He worked in the Pulp Mill and transferred in 1991 to the new Bleach Plant until 1997 when it closed. He worked for Barras Electric and then ProLectric while becoming a licensed electrician. He eventually began his own business, JMS Electrical Contracting. His dedicated wife, Angela, later joined him in 2018 to continue building their dream of a thriving electrical business.

Jon loved his family. The upcoming arrival of his grandson, Knox Gatlin, filled him with joy and happiness with the anticipation of his birth. He was anxious to become "Big Daddy".

Jon never met a stranger and made friends easily. He would give the shirt off his back for those in need. He worked hard to provide for his family. He always said "If my feet don't beat, we don't eat".

He was a godly man and wanted others to know Jesus as their personal Savior. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Springfield. He served on the Finance Committee, Hospitality Committee, and the Awana Ministry. He loved nothing more than being "Big Chief" in the kitchen, although he claimed to be nothing more than an Indian.

After Angela overcame cancer, Jon was diagnosed 6 months later. Angela never left his side and they were together 24/7 for almost two years. The love and devotion she showed her husband was a testament to their marriage vows. She was always an advocate for him and his care. She never left his side and loved him deeply.

He was preceded in death by his father, Julius Archie Sauls; maternal grandparents, Marshall and Nell Rushing; paternal grandparents Julius and Ronella Sauls.

Jon is survived by his loving wife, Angela; children, Jon Marshall, Jr. (Torie) of Rincon, Owen (friend Graysen) of Clyo; his mother, Janice Madeline Sauls of Nevils; father and mother-in-law, Charles and Rita Watson of Dublin; sister, Julie Montgomery (Scott) of Claxton; brother, Jacob Sauls of Nevils; and nephew, Austin Montgomery of Claxton
