With the deepest sorrow we announce Jonathan Brad Smith (49), passed away peacefully in his home that he shared with his late wife, Julie, in Guyton, GA on March 24, 2022. Jonathan was born on January 31, 1973 in Savannah to Charlie and Susan Smith (Cobb) of Garden City, GA. Jonathan is a proud 1991 graduate of Memorial Day School. He attended Savannah Tech. Jonathan was active in the Richard T. Turner Masonic Lodge # 116 in Bloomingdale, Ga. Those who knew Jonathan knew that Alabama Crimson Tide was life! Heaven is painted Crimson and White today. Heaven is also very spirited as Jonathan never met a stranger. To know Jonathan was to have a friend for life. Jonathan created a life surrounded by family and friends. As a young boy he gained the love of Alabama Football from his stepfather. Jonathan's greatest joy was the banter he would provoke by being the biggest Crimson Tide Fan in all of Georgia! The happiness Jonathan had by having spirited conversations with his UGA loving Football Friends and family was immeasurable. Jonathan's Alabama Tide tattoo on his leg was proof enough of his dedication.
As much as he loved Alabama Football he admitted he loved his dear UGA Bulldog loving wife, Julie McLean Smith even more! Choosing Julie for his life's partner is when his friends and family knew she was the one! Jonathan's dedication to Julie who passed away from leukemia in 2017 was one of model husband status. Jonathan is preceded in death by his father, Thomas Charles "Charlie" Smith Sr. and his beloved wife, Julie McLean Smith. He is also preceded in death by his grandparents, Thomas and Furl Smith and George and Lena Rowe. Jonathan is survived by his ever loving mama and step father, Susan and Virgil Cobb, his dedicated brothers, Chuck Smith (Megan), Garrett Cobb, Matthew Cobb and his sister, Victoria Cobb. He is also survived by his father in law, Dan (Jan) McLean, mother in law, Betsy Jones, brother in laws, Jeff (Jamie) McLean, Mike (Amy) Jones and sister in law Amy (Lee) Coe. Jonathan's nieces and nephews were his pride and joy. Cason (Max) Sires, Madelyn Smith, Cooper Smith, Madison (Caleb) Karr, Janie Jones, Amanda and Avery McLean, Jax, Logan and Bethany Coe. He is also survived by his friends, (too numerous to mention) and the loves of his life, his dogs Bailey and Kennedy. When Jonathan walked into heaven pain free, he was greeted with the sounds of the Alabama Fight Song, " Go, roll to victory, Hit your stride, You're Dixie's football pride, Crimson Tide, Roll Tide, Roll Tide!!"
There will be a memorial service for Jonathan on Monday, March 28 at 6PM at Thomas C. Strickland and Sons Funeral Home in Pooler, GA. Visitation begins at 5 PM. The family asks that visitors dress in Alabama Football gear or Crimson/White colors.
