Joseph K. Haupt, Sr.

Guyton - Joseph K. Haupt, Sr., 82, went to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday,
September 15, 2010 at Hospice Savannah.

He was born in Savannah, GA on January 6, 1928 to the late Gary and Effie Tyson Haupt.
He lived in Port Wentworth all of his life until the past few years before moving to
Effingham in 2005.

He was in the United States Navy from 1945-47. He served in World War II on Aircraft
Carrier, Hancock. When returning home he was General Manager for Coastal Butane
Gas (Haupt Brothers Gas Co.) in Garden City, GA until sold in the early 1980's. He was
dedicated in serving his Lord, Jesus Christ and was a member of Port Wentworth Baptist
Church most of his life and served as a Sunday School Teacher and in several other areas.
He went to Haiti on mission trips with his beloved wife. He attended North Salem
Baptist Church, and was a member of "Able" Sunday School Class that he dearly loved.
He was a member of the Port Wentworth Lions Club almost 50 years, and served in
several offices as President, Secretary, Treasurer, and was an Honorary member. He was
an avid fisherman, and was on a bowling team for many years.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Elease McCormick Haupt, his 5
brothers, Bill, Howard Sr., R.C. (Bubba) Sr., B.A. (Tut), and Alvin of Savannah, GA.

He is survived by three sons, Ken (Glenda) Haupt of Springfield, Larry (Vanessa) Haupt
of Rincon, Michael (Peggy) Haupt of Port Wentworth. One daughter, Diane (Harold)
Arrington of Guyton. 3 Grandchildren, 6 Step-Grandchildren, 1 Great-Grandson, and 12
Step-Grandchildren. Several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation of family and friends will be 6 - 8 p.m. Friday at Thomas C. Strickland Funeral
Home in Effingham.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at North Salem Baptist Church, Hwy. 30, Port
Wentworth with Rev. Philip Hudson officiating. Mr. Haupt will lie in state from 10 a.m.

Interment will be at Hillcrest Abbey West on Dean Forest Rd.
