Mr. Joshua B. "Sonny" Woods, Jr.

Sandhill Road – Mr. Joshua B. "Sonny" Woods, Jr., 82, entered into eternal resting Friday, September 16, 2011 at home with his family and friends under the care of Odessey Hospice.

Mr. Sonny was born in Pineora to the late Joshua B. Sr., and Louise Colson Woods. He was a member of Sandhill Baptist Church, where he served for many years on the Building and Grounds Committee. He retired form Swift & Company, where he served 42 years as a truck driver, meat cutter, and maintenance specialist. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, hunting, fishing, and camping. He was an avid race car fan, who followed and attended NASCAR events since the 1950's.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Sonny was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years Allean Hodges Woods, and a brother, Raymond Woods.

Mr. Sonny will be lovingly missed by his wife of 20 years Doris Stewart Woods; two daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis & Kenny Blalock, and Carol & Stacy Strickland all of Guyton; three grandchildren Allison (Michael) Tyler, Sheridan and Shayne Strickland all of Guyton; two sisters Helen Youngblood, and Linda Ratliff; two brothers, Elliot Woods, and Jack Woods; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and close friends.

Visitation will be Monday, September 19, 2011 6-8pm at the Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday September 20, 2011 11am at Sandhill Baptist Church, located at 1936 Sandhill Road, Guyton, GA, with interment to follow in the Woods Family Cemetery.
