June Bunch Horton
March 8, 1953 – February 19, 2026
Rincon, Georgia —
June Bunch Horton, age 72, passed away unexpectedly at her home on February 19, 2026. Born in Statesboro, Georgia, and she was a proud native of Rincon.
Known lovingly to many as “June Bug,” she was an amazing woman in her own special way — a little spicy, a little sassy, and incredibly sweet. She was one of the most selfless, warm, and caring people you could ever meet. June never met a stranger. She could strike up a conversation with anyone nearby and often did. She loved to joke and tease just to make people laugh — sometimes even sneaking in a playful pinch on the butt.
She gave the very best hugs and loved receiving them just as much — even when she was told not to during that awful COVID epidemic. That was just who she was: full of love and never afraid to show it.
June was a strong woman with courage and determination. She faced adversity head on with her signature “I will” attitude and a smile. She was truly a ray of sunshine. Her love for cooking, people, laughter, good times, red cardinals, waterfalls, frogs, playing cards, the beach, and sunshine filled her life with joy. She generously shared her recipes, traded plants with friends, and always made others feel welcome.
She retired after 30 years as a Bakery Manager, a career she was proud of. In retirement, she spent her time visiting family and friends, traveling when she could, helping those in need, and spending hours on the phone talking with the people she loved. Even after retiring, she stayed connected with lifelong friends. Caring for others was simply who she was.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, William Horton Jr.; daughters, Sarah Cheney and son in law Keith Cheney; granddaughter, Taylor Cheney; great-granddaughter, Rubie Beckett; grandsons, Nick Cheney and John Cheney; daughter, Marsha Goolsby, and her children Brenden and Garrick Goolsby; daughter, Tracie Phinesee and son-in-law Michael Phinesee,
Jr, and their children Jayden and Gavin Phinesee; brother, Rodney Bunch; sister, Joyce Snelling; along with an extended list of relatives and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Esther Lee Fail Bunch, and her father, Thomas Rodney Bunch.
She knew you loved her. And if you were blessed enough to know her, you were lucky to have her — just as her family was. May the many wonderful memories she created bring comfort in the days ahead.
Funeral arrangements will begin with viewing at 1:00 p.m., followed by services at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home, 2460 Highway 21 South, Rincon, GA 31326. Burial will immediately follow at Springfield Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to attend as we come together to celebrate her beautiful life and lay her to rest.
