Karen Brinson Blackwelder, 80, died at her daughters home on April 23, 2022 after a short illness. She was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma then moved to Savannah to live with her grandmother as a teenager. Karen came to know the Lord in 1971 where she began her life's mission of serving God. Her passion was to share the Gospel through teaching, mentoring and prayer. In 1991 she began a 15 year journey serving incarcerated women through her organization, Mary Magdalene Ministries, INC. She has been a member of AGLOW International for 30+ year, being President of The Savannah Aglow Lighthouse at the time of her passing. She enjoyed hosting women's bible studies at her home on Wednesday's and for a few years held Friday night gatherings for Bible study and fellowship. Karen was a member of The Bridge Church (Harvest Time Church) but attended and spoke at several others in the Savannah area. She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Joseph Brinson, Sr.; then Preston "Pep" Blackwelder, 3 years. She is survived by her daughters, Terri Sheahan (Joe), Denise Hatcher and son, Joseph Brinson, Jr.; step-daughters, Lucia Rosemarie Wilkinson, Sherry Blackwelder and step-son, Marty Blackwelder (Lola); 14 grands and great-grands. Special thanks to Ruby Jane Johnson, personal friend and devoted caregiver; Dee Nance, personal friend as well as the numerous friends who supported her and the family through giving of their personal time and fervent prayers. The visitation will be on Friday, April 29th from 11 a.m. - 12 noon followed by the Celebration of Life in the chapel from 12 noon until 1 p.m. A private graveside service for family will follow immediately at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Savannah, GA.
