Guyton – Katherine Fesmire Usry, 79, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at Memorial Health.

Katherine was born on January 21st, 1944 in Laws Hill, Mississippi to Jessie and Ida May Fesmire. She was the youngest of 7 children.

Katherine met her sweetheart, Jerry G. Usry, in Millington Tennessee while she was working at post exchange at the Naval base there. They were married in 1960 and had two children together, Danny and Deborah.

Katherine worked as an Effingham County Real Estate Agent, a paraprofessional for Effingham County Schools, owned her own animal salon in Garden City, and ultimately retired from Gulfstream Aerospace in 1991 as an Engineer. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, taking care of animals, but her greater joy came from being a caregiver for her grandson, Jeremy.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry G. Usry; children, Danny Usry (Tammey) and Deborah L. Gibson (Thomas H.); grandchildren, Sarah Morgan (Wes), Amy Szoka (Josh), Kristen Waite (Jason), Jeremy Usry, and Branch Gibson; great-grandchildren, Elaina Morgan, Zacharias Morgan, Camille Szoka, and Bensen Szoka; sister, Marcella Hoffman; and brother-in-law, Harold Usry.

Visitation: 1:30 -2:30 pm Friday, February 3, 2023 in the funeral home.

Graveside Service: 3 pm Friday, February 3, 2023 at Effingham Memorial Gardens.
