Kenneth Gregory Hood

Springfield - Kenneth Gregory Hood passed away at home on February 20, 2026.

Greg was born in Savannah, Georgia on August 20, 1974. He attended Rincon Elementary School and played baseball for the Rincon Athletic Association. He played little league football for the Effingham Optimist Club and began playing the drums in the sixth grade. He then played football for the Central Panthers Junior High School and the Effingham County High School Rebels as a three year starter on the offensive line. He was named to the all-region team twice and an all- state team honorable mention during his junior and senior seasons. He competed in high school wrestling and track as well. He graduated from Effingham County High School in 1993.

Greg worked in several jobs throughout his career. He was employed by Airtran at the Savannah airport. He obtained a Commercial Drivers License and delivered for SWIFT as well as heavy equipment for Prime Rental. Greg worked in law enforcement for the Chatham County Police, Effingham County Sheriff’s Department, and the Bloomingdale Police. Greg worked for the Effingham County Recreation Department and Effingham County Code Enforcement before becoming the Assistant Transportation Director for the Effingham County Board of Education.

Greg was known as a friendly man who would help anyone with anything at any time. He was a practicing Roman Catholic at Saint Boniface Catholic Church in Springfield, Georgia. He loved NASCAR racing, Rebel Football, UGA Football, and spending time on the river in his boat.

He is survived by his loving wife Lydia Trujillo and two sons, Andrew Guzman and Ryan Trujillo. His parents, Richard and Diane Hood, along with his brothers and their wives, Brian and Vickie Hood, Tim and Lori Hood, Matt and Ronni Hood, and Steve and Kathy Hood, as well as nieces and nephews he held deep in his heart. His best friends were Trevor Garvin and Yancy Ford.

A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. on the evening of Monday, February 23, 2026 at St. Boniface Catholic Church.

A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at St. Boniface Catholic Church followed by a funeral mass at 12 noon.
