Guyton – Kenneth H. Tatgenhorst, 73, passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2012 on his 49th wedding anniversary at Hospice Savannah.
The Illinois native was a member of New Providence Baptist Church, the Guyton Masonic Lodge #428 F. & A.M. where he was Past Master, and former member of the Savannah Moose Lodge. He retired from AT&T after 42 years, was a former member of the Guyton Volunteer Fire Department where he was the former Chief for 10 years, and he and his wife were instrumental in starting women's firefighting in Guyton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Hilda Heine Tatgenhorst; and brother, Harold Tatgenhorst.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Hall Tatgenhorst of Guyton; daughter, Lisa (Robert) Smoak of Rincon; grandchildren, Kendall and Karlye Claxton, and Garrison Smoak; siblings, Irene Sluis of Ridgecrest, CT, Howard (Lyla) Tatgenhorst of Tinley Park, IL, Glenn Tatgenhorst of Ridgecrest, CT; sisters-in-law, Marion Tatgenhorst of Tinley Park, IL, Rose (Roy) Lee of Guyton; brother-in-law, Tommy Hall (Marna Lewin) of Guyton; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 10 – 11 a.m. Thursday followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. in the chapel.
Interment will follow in Guyton Cemetery.
