December 2, 1966 – September 12, 2025
Kurt Joseph Knotts-Simmons, born on December 2, 1966, in Savannah, Georgia and departed this life on September 12, 2025 at Emory Johns Creek surrounded by his family. He was a cherished individual who touched many individuals with his warm passionate spirit and humor. He will be missed by family and many friends.
Kurt attended Effingham Academy and then proceeded to the University of Georgia, graduating from the Terry School of Business in 1989.
As an accomplished professional, Kurt worked for Primerica Financial Services in Duluth, GA for 25 years and worked for the Atlanta Braves. Prior he worked for the Red Cross, Rich's and Bank of America. Kurt remained friends with many co-workers during his lifetime.
Kurt was a life-long UGA and Braves fan. Kurt was passionate about all things UGA, especially sports, attending many sporting events, mainly football and Women's Basketball. He cried tears of joy when UGA won the National Championship game in 2021 and then the 2022 title was a true bonus. He would travel to away football and basketball games and especially enjoyed the SEC Women's Basketball tournaments. One of Kurt's rules for the house was "No Orange" as he despised the color. Kurt additionally decided to work for the Braves when they moved to Truist Park in Guest Services. He enjoyed having a front row seat, especially for their 2021 World Series win.
Kurt was preceded in death by his father, James (Jim) Simmons, his grandparents Arnold and Kathryn Handy and Clyde and Ruby Rahn.
He survived by his husband, Bruce V. Knotts-Simmons, his mother, Jacquelyn (Jackie) Simmons, brother Scott Simmons, sister Dawn Leu. He is further survived by his in-law's Ralph V. and Mary Ellen Knotts and sister-in-law and her husband, Sandra and Verle Schlabach. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Kurt will be held on Wednesday, September 17th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Crowell Brothers Funeral Home, Peachtree Corners Chapel.
There will be an additional service at Thomas C. Strickland and Sons Funeral Home, Effingham Chapel on Saturday, September 20th with visitation from 10:00am to 11:00am with the service starting at 11:00am. in the chapel.
Burial will follow at Springfield Annex.
