Meldrim-Mrs. Laila Griffin Hammock "Shug" , 92, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2013 at Candler Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Laila was born in Evans County to the late Rufus & Columbia Griffin. She had lived in Meldrim for many years and was also preceded in death by her husband, Everidge Gordon Hammock, Sr. She was a member of the Central Church of Christ and a former member of the Meldrim United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, JoAnne Ellis & Charlie of Rincon; son and daughter-in-law, Everidge G. Hammock, Jr. & Doris of Old River Road; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Lois Hammock of Savannah and Nell Dunn of Graysville, TN; brother, Ed Griffin of Meldrim and a number of nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. on Monday, December 16, 2013 at the funeral home.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. on Monday, December 16, 2013 in the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Manny Laygo and the Rev. Dr. Rudolph Starling officiating. Mrs. Laila's grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as active pallbearers and her nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
