Mr. Larry Alvin Ulmer, 73, of Bloomingdale, made his blessed journey to Heaven on September 28th at 5:47 p.m.
Larry was born in Savannah to parents, Reverend Vernon M. and Bertha Mae "Honey" Ulmer, and raised in Bloomingdale with sisters Louise (Married, Gene White), Avis (Married, Jake Lanier), Kathleen (Purvis), and brother Marion (Married, Christine Mitchell). On February 5th 1966, Larry married his Texas sweetheart, Mary Kay Mandry Ulmer. Together they had children Tanya Kay (Married, Kevin Bourdon), Jamie Lisa (Benton), David Eric, and Kelly Rebecca (Married, D. Scott Sellers). Larry was of the Baptist faith and proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force and served in Vietnam in '66 and '67. He worked 33 years at Savannah Electric and Power Company and retired from there in 2002. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly remembered for his vivacious spirit, his love of God and country, his steadfast devotion to his family, and of course his charming and heartwarming stories of a mischievous childhood and escapades with friends. Those blessed enough to have known him knew him to be a strong, fun-loving man with a beautiful, bold and giving soul. He will be dearly missed here on earth, and is sure to be dearly treasured in his new residence.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, four children, his grandchildren, Justin, Madilyn, Hunter, Rebecca-Jane, Tristan, Joshua, Brandon, and Ryan, his great-grandchild, Harper, siblings Louise and Avis, sister-in-law, Christine and several nieces and nephews (special mention, Bobby Purvis). The visitation will be on Wednesday (October 4th) from 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the funeral to follow at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow at Gravel Hill Cemetery.
