Lehman M. Mincey, Sr.
Surrounded by his family Friday, May 30th, 2025, at his home in Springfield, Georgia, Lehman M. Mincey, Sr, left the confines of his worldly body to walk with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, February 9th, 1942, he was the 11th of 12 children to Henry R. and Carrie Inez Mincey. He grew up with the streets of Historic Savannah to the cliffs of Causton Bluff as his playground and would later share stories of great adventures he had as a young boy. He would eventually follow in the footsteps of his older brothers and answer the call of duty to serve his country.
He enlisted in the US Navy in June1961 and would serve aboard the USS Macdonough. The Farragut-class guided missile destroyer would be his home until June 1965. After leaving the Navy, he worked many years as an E&I Supervisor for American Cyanamid and Kemira. Finally retiring at the age of 57 from Kerr McGee.
He spent many years coaching some of Savannah's best in Pop Warner Football League teams. The Patriots during the 1970's and later the Islands YMCA in the 1980's. He was asked to coach the first 5th/6th grade football team for Calvary Day School and lead them to many victories.
He had a passion for golf and enjoyed many of the local courses in Savannah and South Carolina. He won numerous local and out of state tournaments, Santee National Golf Course was a yearly travel event he looked forward to. When life took him to Aiken, S.C. to live, he would find a small course there where he worked part-time in the pro shop. He came to love the group of friends he played with regularly there. In recent years having moved to Springfield, he found his groove with old friends and enjoyed the links of Mary Calder Golf Course. He missed the Tuesday/ Friday crew terribly during the last months of his life.
He was a Christian, and avid storyteller, gardener, poker player and a world class clown with a wicked sharp wit.
Preceded in death by his parents and 11 siblings, Catherine and Ophelia (in infancy), Henry, John, Marjorie, Charles, Thomas, Carmelita, Oscar, Carolyn, and Linda.
He is survived by the love of his life, Brenda Dale Brown Mincey of Aiken South Carolina, with whom he celebrated 61 years of marriage on January 11TH of this year. 3 children, daughter Melanie M. Clifton of Springfield, son Lehman M. Mincey, Jr, (Michelle) of Guyton, daughter Melissa A. Mincey of Springfield. 9 grandchildren, Ciahra, Jamie, Mackenzie, Lehman III, Madison, Shaiy-Ane, Parker, Nicolas, and Raymond. 16 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews he loved dearly.
The family wishes to thank Ga Hospice Care and Home Instead Savannah for their never-ending care and attentiveness during his final months of confinement at home. Donation are requested to be made to the Georgia Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association in lieu of flowers.
