Pooler – Leo J. McDonald, 87, passed away on January 21, 2015 just one day after his younger brother Ray. They are together again in heaven.

Leo was born in1927 in Kibbee, GA near Vidalia. He moved to Savannah with his brother Ray and father Oswald. Leo joined the Army as soon as he could and was sent to Japan at the end of WWII. Ray also joined and was sent to Europe. Upon return from his service, Leo met and married Lillian Sapp for what would have been 67 years June 2015. They moved to the small town of Pooler, GA where Leo built their home with his own hands, one room at a time. Leo gave back to his small town by joining the Pooler Volunteer Fire Dept. After retirement, Leo spent much of his time in his woodshop where he used his woodworking skills to build clocks, furniture, and many woodworking projects that he proudly gave to family and friends. He also volunteered time to work on the Savannah Ogeechee Canal Park. He continued his service to the community by helping with the Pooler Chamber of Commerce. He loved to go to town hall meetings where he served as Honorary Councilman. He was not afraid to put his two cents worth in at town hall meetings and was known to his many friends as the Mayor of Skinner Ave.

Leo is survived by his wife, Lillian; two sons, Danny and Larry; Danny's wife, Sandy who he loved and came to be his only daughter; three grandchildren, Alexis (Bryan), Jamie (Crystal) and Jennifer (Daniel); six great-grandchildren, Lily, Ellie, Knox, Layton (little Leo), Brycen, McKinley, Lexie and Brianna.

Visitation: 5-7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Funeral: 1 p.m. on Saturday at Rothwell Baptist Church with burial to follow at Hillcrest Abbey West on Dean Forest Road.
