Leroy "Roy" Crager, 90, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, December 1, 2020. He was born to Joseph and Lula Crager on August 6, 1930 in Alco, Louisiana. He was married to his wife and love of his life Mildred Crager for 66 years.
Roy was an active man in his church and community, and he never met a stranger. Roy worked at Gulfstream Aerospace for nearly 25 years. A man committed to civic responsibility, Roy served Garden City for years, first as a councilman then later as mayor. He served a key role in the creation of Robert B. Miller Road, and he was instrumental in the building of the Senior Citizen's Center building in Garden City—a place where he shared many a lunch with close friends. Roy is survived by his children Sharon Bethune (Don), Wanda Thomas (Rick), and Michael Crager (Jeanne) as well, 13 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by the love of his life Mildred, granddaughter Jillian Crager, son-in-law Fred Collins, and brothers J.D. and Raymond Crager.
The graveside funeral and burial will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 4, 2020 at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens located at 315 Greenwich Road in Savannah with Rev. Johnny Bowen and Rev. Dale Simmons officiating. All CDC and social distancing guidelines will be in place including the wearing of masks (Chatham County Mandate). Thomas C.
