Savannah-Mr. Levi "Pete" Hancock, 86, passed away on Friday, September 19, 2008 at
Hospice Savannah after a long illness.
Mr. Hancock was born in Chatham County to the late Levy & Lena Wise Hancock and
was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served his country
in the U.S. Navy during World War II where he lost a leg while serving on the Fredrick
C. Davis Destroyer (DE 136),.which later sank in Operation Teardrop in the North
Atlantic. Mr. Hancock acheived the rank of Chief Boatswain's Mate First Class before
his Honorable Discharge from the Navy. He retired from the Plymouth Automobile
Company in Savannah as the body shop manager and was a Boy Scout leader for many
years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris W. Hancock, three brothers and one
sister.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Lynda & Danny Garrison of
Savannah, Donna & Dr. Gene Wallace of Richmond Hill and Becky & Blake Bouvang of
Kaysville, Utah; son and daughter-in-law, Randy & Becky Hancock, Sr. of Savannah;
twelve grandchildren, six great-grandchildren with a seventh expected very soon.
The visitation for Mr. Hancock will be from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, September 22, 2008 at
the Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home, West Chatham Chapel in Pooler.
The funeral to honor Mr. Hancock's life will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 23,
2008 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on King George Blvd. Bishop
Mark Lowther will officiate. Active pallbearers will be Randy Hancock, Jr., Justin
Garrison, Ashton Bouvang, Will Wallace, Jonathan Black, Michael Bell, Larry Hancock
and James Hancock. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dave Purcell, Hoke Bouchillon,
Willard Rozier and CW02 Michael Kicklighter, currentyly deployed to Iraq. Burial will
follow at Brickyard Cemetery.
