Obituary

Lewis Alden "Lewie" Stamper Jr., 78, passed away at his home on February 23, 2025, in Estill, South Carolina. Born on September 26, 1946, in Charleston, West Virginia.

After joining the U.S Navy at 17, he served 3 tours of duty as a Bupersman on the USS Wainwright and the Ticonderoga. Following his military service, he continued to protect and serve as a police officer for 22 years before embarking on a new chapter as a business owner. His passion for craftsmanship led him to establish Aching Shoulder Forge in Estill, where he became an inspiring artisan known for his skill in bladesmithing and leatherwork. Recognized as a Native American artist in South Carolina and a member of the Beavercreek Tribe of the Pee Dee region since his adoption by the tribe's chef, Louie Chavis in 2008. Lewie's artistry reflected both his heritage and his deep appreciation for tradition.

Beyond his professional and artistic pursuits, Lewie found joy in many passions. He had a love for classical music and opera, balanced by an enduring fondness for cartoons. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed nature walks, fishing searching for arrowheads and panning for gold. He also had a deep appreciation for motorcycles and cherished time spent at family gatherings watching the Braves and the Bulldogs. His commitment to supporting fellow veterans was

evident through his involvement with OPFOB (Operation Patriots FOB), where he dedicated himself to helping those who served and making many friends.

Lewie is survived by his beloved partner of 35 years, Polly Morris; his children Beth Stamper, Aaron Stamper, Tracy Brown, Eddie Morris, and Michelle Morris; and his siblings Janet Stamper Smith, Dewayne Stamper, Johnny Stamper, David Stamper, and Mike Stamper, Nancy Thomas. He also leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry forward his legacy of kindness and creativity. He was preceded in death by his parents, Irmal Jean Stamper and Lewis Alden Stamper. Also, by his brother, Charlie Stamper.

Those who knew Lewie will remember him as kind-hearted, generous, loyal, humble, funny, artistic, and deeply genuine. His presence brought warmth to every room he entered and left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his memory bring comfort to those who loved him.
