Mrs. Lillian "Viola" Harvey, 103, of Meldrim, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at The Oaks at Pooler.
Viola was born in Tifton, Georgia and had lived in Meldrim for many years where she was very active. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gussie and Zella Mae Roberts Butler, her husband, J.T. "Buck" Harvey, and her sons, Gary S. Harvey and Thomas A. Harvey. She was a member of the Meldrim Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday School for over 63 years. She retired from Belk Department Store and had also been a crossing guard at the Henry Street School in Savannah. She was a very independent, hard working lady who raised two sons while Buck was working on the railroad. In her latter years she enjoyed living life at The Oaks. She will be remembered for being a people person and for being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
Survivors include her grandchildren, Tina M. Harvey, Allen Harvey (Jackie), Diane Harvey, Karen Smith (Jamie) and Mike Harvey (Melissa); 11 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Rose Harvey; brother Bob Butler, as well as several nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be at the Meldrim Baptist Church on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 from 9:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. The funeral to honor Viola's life will follow at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary of the church with Rev. Chad Eason and Rev. David Riddle officiating. The pallbearers will be Mike Harvey, Jake Pevey, Jamie Smith, Austin Smith, and Flint Smith. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Meldrim.
